Can missing files establish a cover-up?
A common logical mistake in discussions of Roswell is treating missing records as affirmative evidence for a specific explanation.
Historically, missing documentation can establish only limited conclusions:
- Some records once existed but no longer survive.
- Later investigators cannot reconstruct every administrative decision with complete certainty.
- Record preservation practices were imperfect.
Missing records cannot, by themselves, establish:
- That the missing files described an extraterrestrial spacecraft.
- That bodies were recovered.

- That a hidden recovery programme operated outside all documented military channels.
To move from “records are missing” to “those records contained evidence of alien craft” requires additional independent evidence. The missing documents themselves cannot supply that evidence because their contents are unknown.

Claims about classified record systems
